Concept of Design:
Lust is usually thought of as excessive thoughts or desire of a sexual nature.
In Italian, inferno means hell. In Dante’s vivid description of “inferno", souls that
are not forgiven of the sins of lust are blown about in restless hurricane-like winds
symbolic of their lack of self control due to their lustful passions in earthly life.
Explanation and Meaning of Concept in Design:
Satan in hell is often depicted carrying a fork to torture the souls condemned
to hell; inferno. Thus, the fork is a tool used here to represent the symbol of desire
which is excessive desire turned into lust in particular.
The large usage of forks being composed together represents the souls that
are not forgiven of the sins of lust. The hands reaching out to grope the busts are an
explosive expression of excessive sexual feelings.
The forks are all pointing in one direction to illustrate the restless souls
that are lacking in self-control being blown about in hurricane-like winds towards
condemnation in inferno. The forks are arranged above the bodice and around the
head to portray the excessive thoughts of a sexual nature that is of lust.
